Ice Jackson - On Brand
The Flu is a backronym which stands for the Florida Life Understood. On this album I attempt to paint a realistic picture of life in Tallahassee and how pursuing some of the more hedonistic pleasures in life can subtly lure you into a world with more dire consequences. This is my first release since my 2018 EP titled Dog Days Of Summer which is currently on soundcloud. The overarching theme of the album is essentially me being mature enough now to come to the realization of just how life in Florida seduces people into making bad decisions. It starts as a mindless pursuit of hedonistic pleasure and before you know it, the world around you is asking for you to make unscrupulous choices to maintain your lifestyle. I liken this seductive lifestyle to being infected with the flu and becoming sick until it ultimately kills you. Not always a literal physical death in all cases. More often than not, a death of who you are. Your morals and character. You have to compromise more and more of who you aspire to be in order to be the sinister person you have become without even realizing it. Some of the first songs on the project were written with the desire to contribute to Snoop Dogg's Missionary album. A good friend of mines contributed to the album and I was inspired to participate in any way I possibly could as well. My goal was to relay some songs to my friend in the hopes that they would get played at some point during the recording sessions. Unfortunately, by the time I found the right production and recorded the songs, The album was already past that stage. So I changed up the lyrics on some of those songs and kept them for myself.
